About us and reviews
"You’re never going to find a more low key, welcoming, Cheers-like environment at a music venue. The staff makes you feel like they’re hosting you in their own home, and I can’t say enough positive things about this place. Truly a one of a kind, hole in the wall gem that I’ll gladly go back to time and time again."
The Evening Muse opened in April of 2001 and thanks to the music-lovin’ citizens of Charlotte and venturous visitors to our fair city, the Muse has had the opportunity to present literally thousands of original independent music acts and performing artists since opening. From our own Carolinas’ music scene to performers from all corners of the globe, an amazing array of artists has graced our stage: from acoustic music to full electric bands; alternative, Americana, blues, country, folk, hip-hop, jazz, pop, reggae, rock, R&B – and where it all begins, with the songwriter.
The Muse brings acoustic music and much more to Charlotte in a great-sounding room. There is excellent original artwork on the walls, a great selection of beer, wine and spirits, and music from some of the finest local, regional and national talent. The Muse is located in the NoDa Arts District in Historic North Charlotte, a great neighborhood with a diverse mix of galleries, shops, restaurants and homes.
Things you should know before attending a show at The Evening Muse:
We strive to provide a wonderful experience for all attendees and performers. Please keep conversations during performances to a minimum, so all can experience the artists in a listening room environment with an excellent sound system and engineer.
All concerts and events are open to all ages unless otherwise specified. (Comedy shows are usually 18+ but check the website first.)
We are only open during show nights, so check our website schedule. Typically, early shows doors are at 7pm, showtime 7:30pm; Late Fri/Sat shows doors 10pm; showtime 10:30pm. We close shortly after showtime and merch sales/meet and greets are complete.
We scan all State Issued IDs at the door. If you do not have a legal ID, even if you are over 21, we will not be able to serve you alcohol - NO EXCEPTIONS. There is also a $5 surcharge at the door if you are under 21.
Some of our shows will have the chairs down, and some of the shows are standing only, and some have a combination. This is determined by the performers prior to the show, sometimes not until their arrival. Some prefer the quiet intimacy of a seated audience, and some want the audience up close, participating, and occasionally dancing. All scenarios can be extremely enjoyable and make for an entertaining, emotional, and sometimes magical, experience. We encourage you to take advantage of all show types.
GENERAL ADMISSION SEATING IS ON A FIRST COME-FIRST SERVED BASIS. There are times when the room is very full, and unfortunately we cannot guarantee a seat per ticket purchase.
Most shows start promptly at the advertised time. If there is an opener, it will be noted on the website and Facebook Event page. Occasionally there will be co-bills, with 2 bands sharing the entire length of the show. It this case, it is usually decided at sound check which band will perform first.
Club capacity: 120. Full PA and sound engineer provided. We book ORIGINAL bands, not cover bands. Please do not have any other shows booked in the area for 30 days before or after a Muse date.
